Katelyn, Conner and Caleb!

Katelyn got her big wish today... to ride in our new bike trailer while I biked. Ever since we picked up the trailer, she's been wanting to ride in it. One day it was raining and she was so disspointed. Then it snowed. We went out for a short walk anyways after she took a nap. She was thrilled. But still a little dissapointed that I didn't put her bike helmet on.

So today with the weather a little warmer I told her that we could go for a ride after she took a nap. She did the lay down for a minute and then pop out ready to go. So we reminded her that a nap is going to sleep. She thought a little and then went and fell asleep. (Sleeping for 3 hours! She was one very tired little girl.)

We ended up riding down to the library. I should have brought my books to return. As soon as I find the bike lock we can go to the library and actually check out books.

Conner thought the trailer was fun... he fell asleep. But he wasn't very happy with the helmet. I think that as his head grows more he'll be happier with it. And as he sits better, he won't slouch down as much and he'll be more comfortable.

Next time I need to remember to bring my camera on the ride just in case we stop at a park to play. The bike trail is going to make a beautiful place to take photos of the kids.

Katelyn was not especially happy with her Dad today. We (everyone except Dad) when shopping and found the latest Thomas DVD along with a special edition gold colored Thomas. Katelyn was so excited that she took it up to show her Dad as soon as we arrived home. He helped her open it so that she could play with the Thomas. She really liked that. Then he said that she could watch the DVD with him *after* her nap. She was fine with that statement. What she didn't like was that he wouldn't count 1 or 2 minutes of laying on the bed as a nap. He wanted her to actually sleep and she thought that was horribly unfair.

She kept going into her room, shutting the door and laying on her bed for a couple of minutes and then come running out all excited. Her Dad kept sending her back. Once she fell asleep, she slept for nearly 3 hours.

When she woke up, she snuggled in to her Dad's lap and they watched the DVD together.

On the adorable note, when we came home from shopping, Katelyn rounded up her other Thomas and her Percy and then found her Thomas t-shirt. She changed into the shirt and snuggled with the engines during her nap.

Can you tell she likes Thomas?

Conner totally slept through the night last night. I think the teeth coming through helped that out. Our normal routine is to put him into his crib when Katelyn goes to bed and then we'll go in and get him a couple of times when he wakes up. When we're about ready to go to bed ourselves, he usually wakes up and so we just take him to our bed with us. I love co-sleeping. He was nursing all through the night and if I'd had to go get him from the crib each of those times, I'd be a sleep deprived mommy right now. Last night we did the typical couple of feedings before we went to bed. Along with a couple of hours of wide awake time. But he was asleep in the crib when I went to bed so I left him there. I was shocked when I woke up this morning and he wasn't next to me! I had to go in and check on him because I was worried that something was wrong. Nope... just sound asleep.

I suppose I should write that down... first full night not in mom and dad's bed.

However... I did end up pumping 10 ounces before he woke up. Yikes!

This evening, Katelyn and Conner and I walked 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile. I'm not really sure how much it was exactly. Katelyn walked the whole way. Conner rode in the stroller. Katelyn was a bit tired by the end. But this encourages me. I might be able to go down for custard before we get a double stroller. I just need someone to help keep an eye on Katelyn while I push the stroller. But I'm thinking she can walk herself down and back. Wooo Hooo!

Eric wore himself out yesterday when his parents were in town. So he's resting today. That's probably good though because his muscles that keep the blood from pooling in his foot need more practice. So a day of effort and then a day of rest will help them build up.

I realized something today. I've been really surprised that Conner couldn't sit and then all of a sudden could and was an expert at it. It seemed strange. But then I remembered that Friday was the first time that the chiropractor adjusted Conner's lower back. I have no idea if that makes a difference but Conner acts like he finds sitting suddenly easier.

Today I finished the top for a crib quilt for Conner. It's more of a toddler bed quilt. But I'll probably use it as a floor blanket until Conner's ready to have it in the bed with him. Or as a swaddle blanket when I'm putting him to sleep.

When I was putting away fabric onto the shelves that Eric put up for me, I found 8 extra squares from Katelyn's bunk bed quilts. I wasn't sure what to do with them until I laid them out in Conners crib to see if they covered it or not. They didn't quite but the came close. So I sewed them up and added borders and it's the perfect size to cover an older baby or toddler who is using the crib as a toddler bed. It's wide enough to fit the crib with a couple of inches extra and long enough to fit the crib lengthwise but still leave room for a small pillow.

The inner border matches Katelyn's bunk bed quilt and the outer border is an alphabet fabric in a similiar color. No flowers on the border for this boy. :) I'm very pleased with it.

On the exciting (for Eric and me) front, we heard from a friend of our from college. He was married about 6 months ago and it sounds like God really picked this woman out for him. She sounds wonderful and she matches the areas of service that God had lead him to in college. We're thrilled for him!

Conner popped another tooth through today. Last night he was fussier then usual. We gave him some Hylands and that really helped. But it wasn't quite through yet. We could tell it was close though. Today it broke through the last bit of skin.

Conner's been sleeping a lot today. I wonder if it's relief. Now to see if he can sleep more at night and nurse more during the day...

We have a tooth! Eric found it. And I know it wasn't there last night because I checked. Katelyn popped her first tooth at about 6 months so this wasn't a surprise but he wasn't unduly fussy these last few days so we weren't expecting it right now!

Eric is rather proud that he's the one who found it instead of me.

Today was a walk to the park that's just down the road. We went via the bike trail of course. Conner rode in the single stroller while Katelyn walked. There was an elderly fellow walking at the same time and he noticed that Katelyn's shoe was untied. So he carefully kneeled down to tie it. He looked so happy to be doing so. And it took a lot of effort to kneel. I wasn't about to stop him. I think he enjoyed playing "grandpa" for a moment. Katelyn held on to my hand and walked next to him while we went to the park and he just beamed. It was great.

I put some of the park pictures up. Check them out! I'm enjoying playing with my new camera. It's a lot of fun to use. And the pictures are turning out really well. I'm sure I'll get even better as soon as I learn how to do more then just use the "Auto" mode. But until then I'm really pleased with how well things are turning out.

Does exercise count if you stop for frozen custard half way through?

I'm thinking so. There is a new bike trail going past our house. So easy to get on to for a walk. So when my sister came over and wanted to go for a walk, I suggested we go on that. It was really nice. This is the first time I was on that section. I'm thinking I'll have to use it more often this summer.

I took the double stroller with Katelyn and Conner. Arthur was on a leash with us and Sandi had Josh. Quite the group.

We started out just planning to go a little ways but then realized that the custard shop wasn't much further so we went there. All in all, I'm guessing we went just short of 2 miles. Not bad, huh?

Arthur was soo tired by the end. He was given a bowl of water at the custard shop (they're really nice to dogs there) but he was ready for a lot more when we got back.

The only bad thing about the walk was that the double stroller lost a wheel halfway back. It's been a good stroller that has served many kids though. Katelyn ended up walking after that happened. She wanted to walk Arthur but didn't quite manage so we took him off the leash as soon as we came back to our subdivision and he stayed really close. He was too tired to do much else.

I have a goal now. To be able to take the kids to the library in the stroller by walking. We can go the entire way via bike trails. And if we leave in the morning, we can stop for lunch at the library and we can stop to play at a play ground on the way there and for custard on the way back. My only question is what to do with Arthur while at the library. I think he'd really enjoy the walk though.

Conner had a chiropractor appointment today and he loved it. He just kept giggling the entire time except for right after the adjustment and as soon as I picked him up, he started giggling again.

I'd been in yesterday and he commented on Conner's goopy eyes. Not a big deal, I thought. Then later I asked him about appointments for the kids and when I should consider getting one for them. He laughed and said that he'd been biting his tongue because he knew that he could clear up the goopy eyes with adjustments. So I made an appointment for Conner. This chiro usually has a 4-6 week wait to get in for a new patient appointment but a cancellation had just occured so Conner got in today!

There were a couple of tests that the chiro did that were interesting. The first was when he looked at Conner's spine. He sat Conner up and then helped him balance by holding the top of Conner's head. There was a definite neck bend to Conner's right. Then he held Conner by the waist and slowly tipped him side to side. Conner would tip his head right to compensate but not left. Then he laid Conner down on his tummy and picked him up by putting two hands around his waist. Conner's head hung down. He said that usually infants will pick their head up to look around during that. I also noticed during the appointment that Conner would frequently roll one way and not the other. The Chiro said that wasn't surprising considering the other things Conner was doing.

He checked the spine near the neck and said that it was swollen on one side at the base of Conner's head (the top joint in the spine). He got out a model of a spine and showed me what was going on and said that the swollen area coresponded with the nerves and such that control blood flow and a few other things around the eyes. Which explains the goopy eyes... the can't drain the way they're supposed to and the root cause is the spine stuff. It all made sense to me.

He also found a spot on Conner's lower back that needed adjusting and explained that. I really appreciated the time this guy took. And Conner just loved it all. The chiro even let Katelyn participate and feel special by playing a tie the shoes game that Katelyn enjoys (she unties a shoe and asks you to tie it then unties the other shoe and repeats a few times). He just smiled and commented that Katelyn wanted to feel part of it.

He only adjusted Conner's neck this time because he didn't want to do to much at once. That was the one time Conner didn't giggle. The chiro wasn't surprised and had prepped me to expect that. It was really more just surprise at the adjustment. And Conner seemed to feel better after it.

The fun thing is that Conner's eyes are almost completely clear right now! I don't know how long it'll last (since the body likes to go back to how it was) but this is really cool. And he's holding his head straighter. Not completely straight yet but straighter. And when I tried to show Eric the tipping side to side test, Conner passed... he tipped his head both ways instead of only one way. So I'm very pleased with the results.

This chiro has 7 kids of his own and it shows in how he interracts with Katelyn and Conner. And in the gentleness that he uses both in talking and in checking things out.

I made an appointment for Katelyn to have an exam too to make sure that everything is OK with her. Afterall, I totally didn't notice that Conner's head tipped until it was pointed out to me. And I wish I'd gotten and adjustment for myself sooner so that the chiro would have seend the goopy eyes so that we could have started this sooner for Conner. I don't feel like I was slacking or anything, I just wish circumstances would have worked out sooner. And I"m glad it's this easy to fix! Conner has been getting really annoyed at me trying to clean his eyes lately. He'll be thrilled to not have me fussing about them anymore.

    Our next appointment is Monday.
