Of course....
I leave the computer on the couch for a couple of minutes to let a guest into the house and my 7 month old son manages to find the one key (Caps Lock) that makes a beep every time you push it. I came back to hear "Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep..." You get the idea. He was quite pleased with himself for figuring out his mom's toy.Comments:Add a comment:

Conner took steps today! Not totally walking by any means. But they were steps!
He'd been sitting on the couch with me (today is a catch up on sleep day for us Larsons) and I'd set him down. He wasn't too happy about that so he crawled over to the couch and I helped him stand up. His feet though were about a foot away from the base of the couch so he thought a moment and then took three steps to get closer to the couch so that he could stand up straighter.
We went upstairs and he demonstrated this new skill to his dad by taking two steps up there. Wow!
Right now he's sitting in the toy area pulling legos out of the lego box one at a time and trying them out for chewability. He really likes legos (Duplos). Those are the first toy he'll get out if you set him in the toy area. He recognizes the yellow container they're in and goes straight there. He's not figured out that he can build with them yet. So far they're fun to explore the shapes of individually. There's plenty of time for the building stuff.
Katelyn woke up this morning very tired. So she ate a little breakfast, took a bath with her dad and then fell back asleep (with some encouragment from her Dad). I suspect that we won't get much of an afternoon nap in so I'm planning on taking her bike riding this afternoon. She had a late night last night (camp fire at Grandma and Grandpa W's house) and she was acting tired yesterday already.
Yesterday was the pig roast at church. That's always fun. Eric didn't go though... his foot was hurting and he was read the riot act by his physical therapist about not overdoing things. His goal for this week is to get his foot to not be hurting at the beginning of every single PT appointment. Conner really likes pork btw. I broke off some small pieces (about 1/2 inch long) and gave it to him. At first taste, he wasn't sure but then he moved it around in his mouth and let out a huge grin. He ate a pretty good portion for a baby who just started solids less then a week ago!
Sandi picked on me a little about not following the "rules" properly. I didn't start solids at 4 months... I didn't do yellow veggies, then orange etc. I totally skipped the pureed stuff(Ugg that bottled food takes awful!) and I obviously didn't wait until 9 months to start meats. Sandi told me about the 9 months for meats "rule". I hadn't known that one. So lets see... did I break every single rule yet? LOL!
Anyways... he really like zuchinni and pork. He doens't like bananas and applesauce. We tried those things first. He made the funniest faces! And decided that maybe he really didn't want solids afterall. He completely stopped grabbing at my food. Until Friday night... when I gave him some of my steamed zuchinni. He couldn't contain his glee! He was bouncing up and down with excitement after tasting that. And all of a sudden he was interested in food again. My son is just weird. What kid doesn't like applesauce? I'd never heard of that one being rejected. It's usually a really safe food even for picky eaters. Nope... he prefers zuchinni. *sigh* Who'd a thought?
Maybe I'll try asparagus next.Comments:Add a comment:

Well, I'm down to my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm very happy about that. It's the first weightloss goal that I've had since I gave birth to Conner. The next one is to hit my mid-pregnancy (Conner) weight. With him I lost a fair amount during the first trimester. Not that I was trying to lose, just that Katelyn stopped nursing and so some of that weight wasn't needed anymore. I thought of it as getting the pregnancy off to a good start by getting to a healthier weight. After that my goal will be to get to my pre-birth control weight. That stuff is nasty... it really packed on the pounds for me. I was very discouraged when I was on that. But now I'm not (it inhibits milk production in some women and as sensitive as I am to other stuff, I'm not willing to risk that!) on it and I'm looking forward to getting rid the results from it.
Ok... why in the world did I just tell you all that? I'm not sure. But I did so there you go.Comments:Add a comment:

"Hey mom, Lets just speed through these milestones... whaddya say?"
Last week Conner sat himself up. I set him down on the floor on his tummy while I ran upstairs after church and when I came down, he was sitting up. Katelyn sure didn't help him because she was sitting at the table waiting for food.
Then he moved to really speeding around the house. Now he's doing a true crawl.
And today he pulled himself up to a supported stand. He was so proud of himself too.
Eric went biking for the first time in a long time this evening. He was told by his physical therapist that it'd be good rehab for his calf muscle. So we took advantage of the new bike trail extension near us and rode it all the way out to Angling Road. I really like how they're doing it. They didn't put a pedestrian bridge over Oakland but they did make a spot so that you could cross one lane at a time and wait in the middle. Good planning.
I think Conner and Katelyn both just crawled into Arthur's kennel... time to go check on them.
:D Conner is really enjoying having the freedom to go where he wants in the house. He's exploring like it's all new to him.Comments:Add a comment:

Can you say exhausted?
We've had Josh with us since his mom went into labor. Katelyn and he are extremely good friends so it worked out really well. Until today....
They've been wearing each other out every day. We've insisted on naps and normal bedtimes (except for last night) but apparently it's not been enough. We've let them sleep as long as they wanted in the morning and after naps. But each day they've just been getting more and more tired. Today they were both tired and both getting on each others nerves. Still playing well for the most part but they weren't as willing to share and were doing things to annoy the other. They just needed more sleep.
Glenn had already planned on picking up Josh this evening so it worked out well. He walked in and the first thing he noticed was just how tired Josh was. So it was *really* obvious.
The funny part about all of this is that Katelyn just put herself to bed! I changed her diaper and went to bring Conner up from downstairs. And when I came back up, she had her squishy pooh tucked under one arm and was asleep on her bed. Wow.
Conner has managed a true crawl as of today. Up on arms and doing the one-arm/opposite-leg thing. He's a bit slow but that's because he's concentrating so hard on it. Way to go Conner!
This has been a really fun week with Josh here. It's shown Eric and I that we can handle a third (no plans to ttc anytime soon though!) and that we'll be OK. The house gets messier faster but at the same time it's easier to clean because with 3, they play amongst themselves better. Of course, you also get more tired a lot faster which makes it harder to get things done after the kids are in bed... there's tradeoffs all around. But we can do it.
I've heard that the transistion from 2 kids to 3 was hard and was wondering why I was handling it so well. Especially with Eric still recovering from his surgery. Then I remembered why that transition is harder... it's because all of a sudden the kids outnumber the parents. But I've been outnumbered for months now with just 2 because of Eric's surgery. He helps out more and more all the time but there was a good while that he wasn't able to do anything. I had to do it all myself. It was almost like being a single parent except that Eric was still around. So not quite the same. But you get the idea.
Hey, take a look at baby Emily! Isn't she a beauty?Comments:Add a comment:
