Katelyn, Conner and Caleb!

I'm praying hard that this is truly working but I *think* I just got Conner to lay down for a nap without him being already asleep first! He nursed for a while, then I laid him down (on my bed though) and told him I was going to go get him some water. I put the pacifier in and walked off. When I took him the water he grabbed it quickly but was doing that staring into space thing. I hung around for a bit in the room (there was a big lump of blankets so he couldn't see me but he could hear me a little) and then when I didn't hear protests, I walked out very quietly. So far it's quiet up there! Except for Katelyn who is reading a book and playing in her room.

This means that I can't nap on my bed but I can nap on the couch! Whooo Hooo!!!!

And it's a start to getting him to go down for bed easier.

He already is going through the bedtime routine with Katelyn. He gets all tucked in, he prays, he blows out the light... and then he climbs out of bed. It's a start though. It's harder with trying to get two asleep in the same room. But I think he's getting to the age where we can insist that he stay in his bed. It was about this age with Katelyn when we started so it makes sense to try with him soon.

I spent all last night talking about Conner last night and forgot to share Katelyn's big news! Last night at Cubbies she earned her Cubbies Vest and Book! She had to say 3 verses from the starter pamphlet thingy. I can't remember what it's called. :D And she can say them all in a row. She even says them to her aunts and grandparents if they ask and get her started. (Or if I'm there to get her started.) She knows how to sign one.

We've started on her first verse in the new book. Katelyn was so exited about it that she brought the book to me this morning. "God is love."

Funny note: Katelyn has Elisabeth on her shoulders and is hanging on to her by the feet. She came up to me and said, "This Dad do me!"

No midwife appointment this morning. We were supposed to be welcoming her right now. But her husband called this morning and she's at a birth. I'd forgotten about that aspect of having prenatal visits at home. But that's OK. The only bummer is that Eric was counting on eating lunch at home so he didn't take a lunch to work. He said he'd figure something out. We've been cleaning as though the midwife is coming. It's been good. The house had gone downhill in the past week and a half and it's been driving me up the wall. I'm excited to get it back to normal!

This afternoon I was looking through the older picture albums that I have on this page. What a trip down memory lane! What amazed me most though was all the things I was expecting out of Katelyn when she was Conner's age. It was like I just assumed she understood so much (which she did) and thus treated her with that in mind.

Then after the evening service tonight I was sitting in the gym watching Katelyn and Conner play. Katelyn ended up sitting next to me for most of this time so I was watching Conner quite a bit.

He loves the gym... there's basketballs out and other balls out and teens playing as well as other kids of all ages. But I started watching Conner while remembering this afternoon's thoughts. It was really cool to see little things that Conner was doing that reminded me of Katelyn at this age. He was totally imitating the older kids.... chasing after balls, throwing them, sitting on a podium to watch... and in the little things he did, the smaller manerisms, you could see such intention and thought. It was really cool and very eye opening.

So tonight, I decided to try it out... I wanted to get laundry that has been scatterd downstairs thoughout the day into a pile so it could go upstairs to be washed. I handed each item to Conner and asked him to put it on the stairway. When we finished, I went to the stairs and there was every single item sitting on the bottom step in a pile.

He's really taken off on the being a big kid idea. Conner doesn't like to sit in his booster seat anymore. Even if it's pushed up to the table instead of using a tray. He'd prefer to sit on an adult chair like everybody else. And after everybody is finished eating, if we leave a cup on the table, he's right there trying to drink out of it - and making a mess when he tips the cup up too far. It's all about learning though.

He's even bringing me books to read to him! Amazingly, his favorite is a golden book about a train engine named Tootle. This is a longer book (about 2-3 paragraphs per page) but he'll sit through 6-8 pages of it before getting bored and climbing off my lap. He'll sit and page through it for hours on his own though.

Katelyn came downstairs this morning and announced, "My dolly poopy" She was referring to her cabbage patch doll, Elisabeth. Apparently, Elisabeth had an accident in her panties. So Katelyn went and got the diaper bag, pulled out a plastic bag and put Elisabeth's "poopy" clothes into it. Then she put a diaper onto Elisabeth... apparently she doesn't want to have to change any more poopy clothes!

Katelyn pooped in the potty today. Twice! She was so proud of herself. It's funny but the most exciting part to her of using the potty is that she gets to go flush the big potty. She also loves her stickers and treat though.

I think she's well on her way to being officially potty trained. We have her in underwear completely during the day now. Even during naps! She still has days though where she decides to not go on the potty but I've stopped telling her to sit on the potty unless we're about to go out or are at a store. I'm quite impressed with her.

I've hit nausea again. It was gone for a while but has come back. Add in my now super sensitive sense of smell and I'm not comfortable. I'm also looking forward to my chirpractor appointment on Monday because I appear to be having sciatica issues. It hurts to move. That's no helping my house look very good.

Otherwise though, things are going well at our house.

Birthday parties are so much fun!

We had Katelyn's this evening. Supper was make your own nachos and Strawberries. Dessert (no surprise) was cake and ice cream. Katelyn requested a turtle this year. I was a little suprised by that request but went with it. Afterall, turtles are fairly easy. I made sure not to ask her too many times in case she changed her mind to something much more difficult. She was thrilled with the result and even said, "Turtle!" For her, naming it is a big sign of approval.

Her gifts were all recieved well. Which is good. I like it when there are no duds and unfortunately, with young kids, it's much too easy to have duds. Katelyn was excited by everything though. Right now, she's wearing her new pj's and tucking in Conner, Elisabeth (her Cabbage Patch Doll) and herself into bed on the couch. Everyone has their own pillow, they're all sharing a blanket and Katelyn just went and turned out the lights. I'm hearing giggles and shhhh while I'm typing in the dark. Conner is on one end, Katelyn's on the other end and Elisabeth is in the middle. Apparently she doesn't need as much room to stretch out.

I must say, I am feeling soo much better with strawberries in my stomach. I was even able to eat nachos this evening with cheese and meat. I credit the strawberries! They just taste so good and calm my stomach. I have no idea if they'll do that to every woman in her first trimester or even if they'll work for me next week. But for now I'm happy.

Katelyn just turned the light back on. I guess she wanted to play with her balloons some more.

One of Katelyn's presents was an outfit for Elisabeth. This really brought out her strong willed character. She wanted to get Elisabeth dressed right away so Aunt Laura helped her out. I'm not sure who had more fun. But the outfit made it onto Elisabeth. Problem though... The pants didn't fit over Elisabeth's diaper. So Katelyn did some quick potty training and Elisabeth is now wearing panties. Don't you wish it was that easy with children who aren't born in cabbage patches? We used a diaper cover as underwear and the pants fit much better. Then Katelyn decided that the dress that Elisabeth had been wearing should be worn instead of the shirt. Nothing would convince her otherwise. So the shirt went on. It looks a little funny but it works. And Katelyn is happier this way.

Eric taught the kids today that they can talk to the new baby through the "microphone". This is otherwise known as mommy's belly button. The kids loved this idea. Katelyn introduced herself to baby - "Me big sis" and told the baby that she loved it. And a bunch of otherstuff that I didn't understand but that was obviously heartfelt. Conner said, "Hi," and then proceeded to splooch my belly because that's what you do to babies. And since that's where mom's baby is, that's where you splooch to get the baby's belly.

Katelyn will answer, "yes," when questioned if mommy and Aunt Sandi have a baby in their tummy. But if you ask her, "Does Aunt Laura have a baby?" she carefully (and emphatically at times) says, "No." Aunt Laura is very glad that Katelyn knows this important little fact!
