Katelyn, Conner and Caleb!

I realize that this is Mother's Day, but I need to brag about Eric. (Tell him how wonderful he is if you read this!)

He spent this afternoon helping the kids clean up their room after their nap. Then he took them outside and they all cleaned the garage so that my car could fit back in. It's full of goodwill stuff so this was huge.

Then... he helped the kids make baked potatoes for supper, cleaned up the kitchen some, convinced the kids to clean up the living room and then played Star Wars with them.

My daughter now knows the way to make blaster noises, light saber noises and how to say, "He's dead" (referring to the Star War's guys that are used in the game).

Add in to all that he's done... Conner is super tired and so Eric's been doing all this with a slightly crying little boy.

    Isn't he great?

    <3 (That's supposed to be a heart)

We have a budding gamer over here. It doesn't surprise me in the least. Though it is very fun to watch.

Last summer when I was at Pennsic, I bought Katelyn a very simple game called Rota. It's a medieval game and about as simple as you can get and still have a strategy. Think tic tac toe except that it's played on a wheel shape and once your pieces are all placed, you can move them one at a time until you get 3 in a row. Katelyn understands the basics but not much strategy at this point.

She does however love to set it up and have someone play her "board game" with her. Conner doesn't play so well yet (no surprise!) so she gets frustrated when he wants to join in. But she's really enjoyed playing with her dad and me. She'd love to teach it to you!

I made it to church this morning. It was nice to be there.

But I saw a change that made me very happy to see. I've heard about this chane from others but I was very happy to see it going on.

Apparently, a lot of the sons of people acting as Ushers are helping out in the role of usher. Even to the point of helping collect the offering.

    This was so cool.

I've read complaints here and there and even heard them that nothing in the Bible talks about separating age groups for the purpose of ministering to them. While it makes sense to teach on a level that is specific to that person, separating kids into age groups can mean that they don't meet other people. Even adult Sunday School classes can turn into this... a group of people (men, women or couples)into a group that could very well never really get to know any other group. There's validity in teaching a class aimed at say, newlyweds. Or young parents. Or women. Or men. And there are wonderful topics that really fit best in a smaller group like that.

But how does this fit the mandate given in the Bible that the older women are to teach the younger women? Especially if you don't know who they are?

That's why I was so thrilled to see the boys being ushers. What a great way to learn about contributing to the church. And to meet the older members of the church so that they can learn.

Yet another reason I like my church so much.

Apparently the word precocious doesn't just fit my oldest.

    :D

More later.... gotta get the kids out of the tub. I'm sitting at the bathroom door with my laptop making sure everything is OK. But it's time for them to get out.

    ****************************

I just read the definition of precocious. Maybe that isn't quite the word.

    "All boy" is probably better.

I was giving Katelyn a bath after her nap. Conner decided he wanted in so when I stepped out into the hallway to get some clean clothes for Katelyn, he just climbed on in. When I got back (less then a minute) he was laying down in the bathwater right next to Katelyn enjoying the bubbles.

In his clothes and diaper of course.

I just burst out laughing. Probably not the ideal response but definitely fitting to the situation!

He had a little longer nap today and it shows. He's just on the go, batteries recharged and everything.

When I got him dressed (after much giggling and running around the house) he ran out of the room and came back with a pair of pants. I was just going to do the shirt that snaps at the croch. He decided differently. So pants it was.

    Today has been quite exciting.

It really started out last night because that's when I started feeling sick. Lots of vitamin C and sleep later and I was doing pretty good. Until Conner woke Eric and me up at 5:30 with crying. Normally he comes to us and climbs into bed but this time he didn't so Eric went down to check on him.

    He'd thrown up.

Bath time! We got him cleaned up, the bed remade and him lying back down (in his own bed!) fairly quickly. Bedding and pjs in the washer, the works. I was impressed that when I brought him a new sippy with more vitamin C, he just picked up his head and looked at me then put it back down and started drinking his water.

He's come a long way with his sleep habits.

This morning I let him sleep in. After that, he needed it.

So... as I was getting Katelyn ready for school, Conner fell down in the toy area. He cried a little, not bad but since I was almost done with a braid in Katelyn's hair, I just told him to come over to me. I was very surprised when he came over and had a big ol' drop of blood dripping down his forehead. So I tied of Katelyn's braid and off to the kitchen we went.

He now had a small T-shaped cut on his forehead. I think he fell down onto the wooden train box. He perked right up after I got the band-aid (with Neosporin) on and let him watch a little signing time.

Katelyn went off to school in the care of our neighbor (friends are wonderful!) and I took Conner up to take a shower to clean his head off better. It worked. It also wound recharged his batteries again. He started running around his bedroom pretending to run into walls - catching himself with his hands just as he got close - and saying "boooommmm".

He did go down well for a nap once I got him dressed though. When I checked on him later he had fallen asleep while looking out his window at the neighborhood.

The only problem with a one year old and a band-aid on his forehead is convincing him to keep it on for the first few minutes until he forgets it's there. He doesn't seem to notice it much after that. But for the first few minutes he looks at us and says, "Owieeee" as he points to his head. I think he's milking it for all it's worth. The attention is just too much fun.

As I've been writing this, he's run into the table once (barely noticed) tripped over his feet a few times and is just generally giggling and enjoying himself.

The head thing must not have been too traumatic.
