Katelyn, Conner and Caleb!

February 2007

I just realized that since Pampered Chef stoneware is 20% off this month, I should let people know that in case they wanted to order some. E-mail me or call me if you want to get something. Zero pressure though... I have met my primary goal for what I wanted to buy so I'm not out campaigning for orders. I just love the stoneware so I'd want to know about a sale like this.

That said... I'm posting again. It was a dry spell earlier this month but I'm posting more these last few days.

Caleb has discovered that not only can he move, he can move to get to toys. This has opened up a whole new area of entertainment for him. It's still slow going to get to the toy but it means that he can choose what he wants to do more. Currently his big favorites are a xylophone we have - it has keys so you can play it like a little piano - and a stuffed puppy that plays music. He also really likes a chewing toy that has a bell in it, his rattle and a couple of simple chewing toys. Chewing and noise...

    And pulling hair.

This morning when I was getting Conner ready for church, Caleb started crying. He was laying safely on a bed so I asked Katelyn to go try to comfort him. Caleb quieted down quickly. When I went into where they were, there was Caleb in the middle of the bed and Katelyn snuggled up with her back to him. I commented that he must like having his sister snuggle.

So Katelyn explain, "He wanted me to snuggle with him so that he could pull my hair." It was then Katelyn's turn to get ready so Conner climbed up on the bed. He carefully took Katelyn's place next to Caleb and told Caleb to pull his hair. I had to giggle.

Caleb didn't like Conner's hair as much though so as soon as she could, Katelyn told Conner to move so that she could get back up there.

Today was Katelyn's first day in the 4 year old Sunday School class. She'll be in this class until she moves into 1st grade. She seemed to really enjoy herself but she wanted to have Conner be in class with her. I told her that it wasn't a class for two year olds. He didn't mind too much, he likes the class he's in.

What a fun but busy day. I hosted a Pampered Chef party today. It was really a bunch of fun. Most of the people I invited ended up not being able to make it. That's primarily because of a Beth Moore conference that was going on today and was being watched via satellite at a local church. None of us knew about it when we scheduled the party. But we had a fun group anyways. I sure enjoyed it!

We did gluten free foods so that Katelyn could join us in eating it. Speaking of her... she knew there was going to be a party so she woke up this morning very excited about it. She insisted that she should wear a dress and then she told everybody that the "ladies" should say home while the boys go out and do stuff. So we let her stay.

The boys went out and did "stuff". I think they had fun.

We made 30 minute chicken (a whole chicken in the micorwave!) and then did a "trifle" which was a layerd dish of cake, a cream cheese mixture and strawberries. Yum!

Then we went over to my sister's for an Arbonne party. I've heard a lot about Arbonne but hadn't ever had the opportunity to try it so this was a lot of fun.

While we were there Caleb demonstrated his crawling technique. He's up on all fours now instead of the army crawl. He's still very shaky but he's definitely moving along a couple of "steps" at a time.

I was looking back at pictures of Conner at 6 months and it was interesting to see how advanced he was compared to Caleb. A little hard to since I see pictures of other 7 month olds and they pretty far ahead of Caleb. So it was encouraging to see Caleb interacting with his cousin Sarah. Caleb and Sarah are so similiar in age gestationally that they are very much alike in their milestones. It encouraged me to see just how similiar they were. And they really seem to enjoy talking with each other and interacting.

Wow has it been a long week. We're not going to church this morning because this week has done me in. I've been borderline sick most of the winter but this has pushed me over the edge and I just need a break of sorts. And Caleb does too.

Katelyn and Caleb had their well child exams on Friday. They're both doing well but Caleb had the beginnings of an ear infection and was wheezing slightly. Because neither seemed to be bothering him at all and he was very congested (which probably caused the wheezing) the ped suggested just coming in next week and seeing how both looked. If they've not improved then we can discuss medication. But if they've improved then we don't need either.

I used the bulb syringe Friday and yesterday on Caleb and though he hates it, I was shocked at what I got out. He's not dripping and doesn't even look like his nose is stuffed but apparently it's just really deep in there. He's breathing a ton better now too. So I think by next week he'll be enough improved that we won't need to do anything. However, I'll be open to further action if he's not better. From what the ped said, he's right on the borderline with his age for doing nothing at this point or giving meds. By actual age he's in the do nothing stage. By adjusted age he's in the give meds stage.

The ped's first comment about Katelyn was, "Well, she looks healthy!" Yep, she sure does. The exam just confirmed that. We are watching an area of possible exema and her ears are very full of wax. The ped said liquid colace is really good for cleaning that out. Who knew? Now I just need to buy some...

Eric is still dealing with the head injury. His short term memory is affected and he gets exhausted easily from mental stimulation. He's getting pretty discouraged by how long it's taking to recover even though we've been assured that this is very normal.

This is why I'm getting sick though. We have had multiple appointments most of the days this last week and that'll only continue through next week. On Friday for example, I drove Eric to an appointment in the morning, he had one in the afternoon and then we had the ped appointmen later in the afternoon. Time at home was spent feeding everybody and getting coats on and off and not much else. It's just very hectic. And it's running all of us down.

I think we'll do better with it this coming week though because we're more prepared for everything that'll be going on. Last week we didn't find out about the next day's schedule until late afternoon.

I asked the older two kids what they wanted for dinner tonight and rather then answer, they went to the fridge. I figured that they were going to see what was there and then come up with an idea. Instead they started pulling out foods. They are eating gluten free hot dogs (surprisingly healthy), chips and salsa. It's a little odd but fairly well balanced so I decided to let them eat it. They even got out condiments for the hot dogs. It was a real team effort between the two of them.

    Caleb just sat and watched.

Eric is still home from work. He's definitely not up to par from hitting his head. He had his cognitive evaluation yesterday and the two therapists who tested him each came to the same conclusion - that he needed some therapy and shouldn't be back at work. I have seen enough in his actions during the day to agree.

Caleb popped a tooth out on Tuesday! Front lower left. That makes his first one. His Aunt found it while trying to find whatever molar he seems to be trying to chew with. We were surprised since he hasn't been fussy or even been chewing with the middle front of his mouth. This tooth came in about two months after his older sibs first tooths came in so he's right on schedule for his adjusted age.

Speaking of Tuesday... that was when we celebrated Katelyn's birthday party. It was very low key but a lot of fun. Just people over for cake and ice cream and a couple of presents. Now Katelyn feels like she's had a birthday. Until then she knew she was four but she would tell us in a sad voice that she hadn't had her birthday yet. She's happier now.

We have a very yummy gluten free cake recipe for anyone who wants it! Just get me your e-mail address so I can pass it on.
